He was about to study medicine at Laval University and dreamed of working for Doctors without borders. Nicolas Quintal, 18, was promised a bright future, but, in April 2012, a long-time friend was killed in cold blood.
In a relationship with a young woman, Nicholas has had the misfortune of finding themselves in a love triangle that will eventually cost lives.
Years later, the mother and a sister of Nicolas Quintal agreed to come back on the tragic events in trusting to Jean-François Guérin in the context of the issue The word to the victims.
First accused of murder in the second degree, Daniel Semples eventually pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of manslaughter; a turnaround which shocked even today the family of Nicolas.
“This is like a slap in the face. A nice big slap. […] All this just for that. This is ridiculous,” says his mother, Anie Charron.
“There’s a part of me that died with him. […] I think maybe not every day as before, but every time I think about it, it is still wrong. It is as if it was the first day.”
