Women are biologically stronger than men and more likely to survive a life-threatening situation, reports Rus.Media. This conclusion, according to the newspaper The Daily Telegraph, scientists at the University of southern Denmark.

They are based primarily on historical data that affect life expectancy and mortality rates among men and women in times of distress. We are talking primarily about people, suffering from hunger and epidemics, and sold into slavery.

So, before the famine in Ireland in 1845-1849, the average life expectancy was on average 38 years for both sexes. But at the peak of the disaster provoked by epiphitoties late blight – a massive infestation of potato crops on the island, the approximate life expectancy for men fell to 18.17 years, and women and 22.4 years.

A similar situation was observed during a famine in Sweden in the years 1772-1773. Women lived almost two years longer during the two epidemics of measles, struck Iceland in the nineteenth century.

“We found that even in the case of very high mortality that women live longer than men, – quotes the edition the head of the group of experts of Virginia Serulle. Amazingly, during epidemics and hunger newborn baby girls survive more often than boys.”

Scientists do not exclude that the possible biological advantage of women is associated with sex hormones. Estrogens have anti-inflammatory properties and support the cardiovascular system. The main male hormone, testosterone, is, as the researchers note, risk factor for many severe diseases.

The Daily Telegraph also cites the opinion of experts on the evolutionary, who believe that women have “enhanced the immune system, since it must survive, at least for nine months to give birth to a child.”
