Terry Pratchett is finally being tackled by the BBC, which has decided to adapt one of the stories most loved by the Disk-World series. But without Rincevent…
Terry Pratchett was an author of fantasy, satirical, extremely prolific, and respected, and above all incredibly funny and fair. He has written and implemented several universe, his magnum opus unquestionable is, of course, The Annals of the Disc-World. Begun in 1983, which is rich in 35 volumes, this anthology of short stories wacky has known its hours of glory, particularly in the 90s, and has been followed religiously by his fans.
The great turtle A’tuin, bearing on its back the four elephants, themselves on their backs on the disc-world
Approaching a roundabout way and playful subjects as diverse as The santa, the cinema, the rock-and-roll or other more serious such as death, war, or racism, Terry Pratchett has asked his eyes sparkling and light on number of themes, and this, in spite of Alzheimer’s disease detected in 2007.
He will still be writing until 2014, when he will have the last words on the last volume of the Annals of the Disc-World, before we leave in 2015.
Death in Discworld 2. They date back to the memories there or not ???
Curiously, if his world is extremely rich and has been adapted many times in Comics, board games, role playing games, and even two excellent video games, the audiovisual industry has remained fairly remote. Several tv-movies in two parts, however, have already seen the day under the auspices of Sky1, but with results that are rather mixed, despite the presence of Christopher Lee, Sean Astin, Tim Curry, David Suchet, Charles Dance or Jeremy Irons in the cast.
But that’s not a problem, this time, it is nothing less than the BBC, which is adhesive, and according to Deadline, she hopes to make more seasons ! We do not know yet all the details, but it already has a few items to know what will be the thing…
Sean Astin was Deuxfleurs, the first tourist of the world, in the movie Discworld
First, be aware that the production plans for the time of shooting 6 episodes. Another topic of rejoicing, a priori, the BBC would like to put the small dishes in the large, since, always according to Deadline, she would like to make the project a great co-production international.
But above all, you should know that the working title of the project is The Watch. A name that may only ring with creaminess to the ears of fans, as it is the English name of the Watchtower of the city of Ankh-Morpork. Therefore, it is highly likely that the story chosen by the BBC to be one of those on the band of the Captain Vimaire.

It’s smart enough to play their part, as, the first story of the Watch City is one of the volumes, the most popular of the whole saga while being one of the most whimsical, and in addition, it avoids addressing any of the following stories about The Death or Rincevent and the magic, the more difficult to access. And then, in addition, a priori it means that there will be a dragon. It will still be a little sad to have to resolve to not see Rincevent and their Luggage by poirier scholar immediately. But the captain Vimaire will also probably have to wait, the project has just been announced and no release date or filming has not yet been advanced.
Finally, be aware that this is not the only adaptation of Terry Pratchett who is waiting for us on the turn, since Amazon is now in the process of producing the series, Good Omens, an adaptation of the book Good Omens. It is not part of the Annals of the Disc-World, but steps all the same, a concept that is wacky. In any case, in one case as in the other, you don’t have to worry, we are following it very closely.
