The creators of Stranger Things are accused of stealing the idea of the series to someone else

If the series Stranger Things has so many cardstock right from the start, we say that it is because she had been able to capture the air of the time, the nostalgia of the 80s that we hugged now, and because she was able to bring a touch of originality, nothing to it. Come on, let’s say that this is almost it…

That Stranger Things pump to the right and to the left, this is not a novelty. The less convinced people will say that it is even the basic principle of the series : resume all the clichés and all the references of the 80’s and we send them back to the front, so Proust’s Madeleine, to make us regret having aged. And somewhere, they will not be wrong, even if the series goes well beyond this simple premise, of course.

The Brothers Duffer

While watching episodes occasionally turns into a hunt for clinker-look here, Stranger Things finds himself in the unfortunate posture, at the same time as it prepares for its season 3. In fact, now that the series is to be found referred to by a trial issue, following the filing of a complaint for theft filed by Charlie Kessler against the brothers Duffer.

It is important to know that in 2012, the complainant had made a short film that would serve as a teaser to his ambitious series The Montauk Project , that it had been circulated, including at the Tribeca film Festival where he had proposed his idea to Matt and Ross Duffer. The discussions had not gone far, and now, 4 years later, the Stranger Things appear, and the director found a lot of elements of his idea.

According to the site Joblo, Stranger Things has in fact many points in common with The Montauk Project : a young boy who disappears, a government project top secret, which conducts experiments on children, a cop with the troubled past who swears to find the disappeared, the creation of a monster… If we add to this that the first title of the series was precisely Montauk, the similarities become frankly disturbing.

That said, it should not be forgotten that the two projects find their roots in a conspiracy theory is very famous, the one relating to the project Montauk : governmental experiments conducted at Camp Hero at the beginning of the years 70 and that was to develop the capacity parapsy of its guinea pigs, as well as to study the teleportation and time travel.

If neither Netflix nor the brothers Duffer have commented on the filing of a complaint, it is now the court of California to decide.
