Series expected to cult phenomenon, The Haunting of Hill House has burned through all of the steps at an incredible speed. Even Stephen King is a fan !
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful successes of Netflix, all media. This new adaptation of The Haunted House by Shirley Jackson is a sequel to the masterpiece The House of the devil by Robert Wise, which it cites without ever pressing it. In 10 episodes, Mike Flanagan will be able to narrate a story in both repository, gothic, romantic, but also a sadness at the purity staggering.
Attention to the eyes
And in the end, there is nothing surprising that Stephen King himself was charmed by the series. The latter could be perceived as a practice literal of the principles that animate its literature. Indeed, the novels of King marked the 70’s and 80’s by bringing back the fantasy elements and horror in full lightrather than in darkness Lovecraftiennes.
And in fact, in The Haunting of Hill House, Flanagan will be pleased to retain this education and play as well off-field as on the rise, creating a relationship clear between the two authors. Finally, the cutting time between two major epochs immediately think of It.
One of the high places of literature and film fantastic
One imagines, therefore, that the novelist has had to easily spot and be touched by the many bridges between the two works, not to mention that his writings are strewn with tributes to Shirley Jackson. As well the dialogue on the stone that opens the episode 9 is a direct quote from the novelist, which cited King in Carrie, on the occasion of a flashback.
Many reasons that may explain the enthusiasm shown by the artist about the series, available since October 12, 2018.
THE HAUNTING OF HILL HOUSE, revised and remodeled by Mike Flanagan. I don’t usually care for this kind of revisionism, but this is great. Close to a work of genius, really. I think Shirley Jackson would approve, but who knows for sure.
