Agents of SHIELD Season 4: Episode 17, the point of no return, our critic
Yesterday evening a new episode of season 4 of Agents of SHIELD was broadcast on ABC. Check out our review of “Identity and Change” and pay attention to spoilers!
The season 4 Agents of SHIELD continues on ABC and offers us ever more exciting episodes of the alternative universe in which are now stuck Jemma and Daisy. This week in episode 17, “Identity and Change”, the two SHIELD agents have tried to find a way out of the framework now that AIDA – or Ophelia – is aware of their presence. But this time they could have a little help. After his discussion with Daisy, Phil Coulson is finally back and the least we can say is that he is reassured to know that he is not mad and that his suspicions about Hydra were well founded. After discovering that their loophole no longer worked and that Holden Radcliffe was also present in this world, Daisy and Jemma decided to start looking for him – finally without Daisy who aroused the suspicions of an ever more threatening May … This mission allows Jemma and Phil to meet the head of the resistance which is none other than Jeffrey Mace . As much as to say that the wonder of Coulson before that which he calls “The Patriot, the legendary Inhuman leader of the Resistance” is worth its weight in gold and proved that in any universe, Phil remains an adorable nerd.
Radcliffe’s research is also an opportunity for Ward and Jemma to (re) work together and Simmons’ mingled mistrust of resentment towards the ever-dual agent is more than obvious. One can understand it after all, but the sincere love that Ward seems to wear to “Skye” softens it a bit. While Phil, Jemma and Ward trace Radcliffe to realize that he can not be of much help to them, Daisy participates in a mission to capture Mack and his daughter Hope. Yes, we finally know what Mack does and a priori, nothing special but enjoy life with his little girl – still alive in the framework . His forced passage to Hydra leads him to “betray” Daisy and pushes him to at least want to regain the respect of his daughter by joining the resistance later on. One finds thus the Mack faithful to itself, courageous and full of morality that one knows. Back on Radcliffe Island, the doctor tells them that AIDA killed him in the real world and finally reveals where the bodies of their comrades are hidden. But the revelations are interrupted by the arrival of Ophelia and Fitz who come to ask for accounts also in Radcliffe.
From a distance, Ward, Coulson and Jemma observe a lively scene at the end of which Fitz threatens Agnes, Radcliffe’s wife on the model of which he built AIDA. While Jemma is struggling to convince Ward not to shoot down the “Doctor,” Fitz is torn by the explanations of Ophelia on one side and Radcliffe on the other about this strange story. Unfortunately it is Ophelia that he ends up believing and kills Agnes in cold blood to the great despair of Jemma. Fitz looks cold and seems to be an entirely different man than the second half of FitzSimmons, the gentle scientist with a great heart that we know so well . In other words, between the murder of Agnes and her threats against Daisy, a prisoner of Hydra, It will be difficult in any case to find Fitz in the real world and to see him in the same way. ABC has delivered an episode energized and decisive for Fitz who continues to plunge us into a scary alternative world. Will Jemma succeed in bringing him back to reason despite his painful indifference during their exchange of looks? And will Daisy and Jemma eventually find a way to regain reality? We’ll know more next week! Until then, discover what other series to watch to wait through our program of the week . What did you think of the episode?
