The Guardians of Galaxy 2: Kurt Russell “It’s a real challenge to play Ego”
Kurt Russell joined the MCU family in the role of Ego, the Living Planet, and we met him for an exclusive interview.
It is no longer a secret for anyone, superhero movies are no longer scary to the big movie stars! If they were deemed too commercial and lacking depth at one time, today they are almost a mandatory stage. Kurt Russell recently appeared in Fast and Furious 8 alongside Vin Diesel and his team and fans of the Galaxy Vol 2 have been able to discover it since Wednesday in the dark rooms. While we recently unveiled our exclusive interview with Zoe Saldana for the release of the Galaxy Keepers Vol 2 , we also had the chance to ask a few questions to Kurt Russell who lends his traits to Ego, the living planet & Peter Quill.
Kurt Russell – Chris Pratt and James Gunn were discussing the actors they would like to play to play the role, they agreed on me for various reasons, about what the character should bring to the plot and what ‘They were waiting for the actor who was going to interpret Peter Quill’s father … I did not immediately say yes because the first film was a real success and I wanted to make sure that the second one would be as good, Did not want to take the risk of being held responsible in case of disappointment!
Did you see the first movie before saying yes?
I did not see it when it was released, but when the rumor began to circulate, everyone was so excited … When I was doing interviews for Les 8 Salopards people were asking me if I was going to play Role of Peter Quill’s father or participate in the movie The Guardians of Galavia Vol 2 and I did not know at all what they were talking to me so I clearly told them “I have not seen the movie!” .
How did you react when you learned you were going to play a planet?
I did not know at the start, I just knew I was going to play Peter Quill’s father, but James Gunn did not communicate that it was Ego, a “human” planet which was interesting to me! In the world of Comics it is an important character, but when I read the script it was called J’Son and I thought to myself that it was really a rotten name for a pretty cool character, especially that for me Prenim of a character has much importance and changes the way one has to play it. I realized later that the role was based on a character called Ego, the living planet and afterwards I realized that it was exactly the character I was going to play! I found it great, but I can not really talk about it because of its importance in the film, I can just tell you that I loved playing it, even if it was a real challenge. I think what is most important is his relationship with Peter Quill, that’s where the film goes and it has an impact on the rest of the characters too and I think it’s great.
It is true that it is a character who reserves many surprises …
Yes, you have to go see the film to understand. At first we are like Peter we are happy to meet him, then we begin to have doubts … He is much more than a man and we must remain attentive to what he tells!
How would you describe the relationship between Ego and Peter Quill?
This is really what interested me in this film, I knew many young people who grew up without their father and they all did the same thing: to create in their head an imaginary personage and that is exactly what Peter does. James Gunn has really put his finger on something and many people will recognize themselves in this situation. And then on the other side we have a father who has not been present for various reasons and has been looking for his child for years … When the two meet, it is the end of the imaginary, they discover For real and this is where things really change, negatively or positively. Ego is not just a man and Peter discovers new things about himself, he becomes aware of all he can do.
What is the most difficult thing when playing Ego?
The suit ! It took time to find the right look for him because we wanted him to stand out from the other characters, but we were also looking for a practical costume for me so we took a little time to find the right balance!
