Wonder Woman: The origins of Aquaman’s trident unveiled in the film?
Wonder Woman does not make many connections with the rest of the DCEU. Yet he may have unveiled the origins of Aquaman’s trident!
Because it unfolds well before the apparition the modern era when crossing overpowering superheroes became commonplace, Wonder Woman has everything from the standalone movie that does not need to rest on any extended universe to have sense. This does not mean that it does not establish some connections with the DCEU, redrawing in particular the character of Diana to make it more complex. Yet those of you who have seen Patty Jenkins’ film and who have genuine gifts of observers may have noticed a small detail that is important. And that could simply connect Wonder Woman to … the story of Aquaman ! The detail in question appears at the beginning of the film, when Hippolyte, Diana’s mother, Tells the girl the origins of the Amazons and the conflict that opposes them to Ares. During his narrative, narrated in the form of animation, one sees several gods of Olympus and especially Poseidon. Now this one holds in hand a trident which resembles enormously … to the trident of Aquaman as seen in the trailer of Justice League . Coincidence or true revelation?
The story of the trident that the superhero possesses is complicated, the weapon being considered a relic of Atlantis. But before it failed in the hands of Arthur Curry, it had multiple owners of which one of them is none other than Poseidon, the king of the seas. But if Wonder Woman has taught us something , it is because the Greek gods existed – and still exist – in one form or another in the DCEU . It may well be that, defeated by Ares during the war that raged between him and the followers of Zeus, Poseidon would have dropped trident, which would then have flowed to the bottom of the seas. Before being recovered by an Atlantean and arrive, over the generations, until Aquaman. The Atlanteans being a people almost as old as the Amazons, They could very well have retained the weapon as a relic. In any case, this is a seductive idea that, if it proves right, would link Wonder Woman even more closely to the rest of the DCEU. And establish a mythology proper to this universe. Of course, it will surely be necessary to wait for the release of Justice League, which should also appear a character of Wonder Woman , or Aquaman to know if this theory is right!
