For fans of John Wick, it was a good weekend since they learned that their favourite character saw his world expand considerably with The Continental, a tv series. But it is time to learn a little more about it.

While John WIck 3 is in preparation, that it is always directed by Chad Stahelski and that it should arrive on our screens on the 17th of may 2019, the world of the hired killer took a hell of a boost this weekend when we learned that a tv series was also in development, The Continental. However, the point of John Wick in this new format, since the series will focus on the mysterious organization that employs him and the hotel where the killers are staying during their contracts.

An idea interesting enough to learn a little more about this universe intriguing and just reveal a little more by the intermediary of the president of the branch “original creation” of the network, Starz, Carmi Zlotnick, since the latter has just revealed new details, and not least, at the microphone of Slashfilm :

“We had discussions to try to bring back the character of Ian McShane in the story. What is good is that we have an idea of his schedule because he is also committed on our series American Gods. So we are in full discussions with him.”

In the films, Ian McShane’s Winston, the butler, director of the Continental and the boss of the criminal organization and, effectively, its presence seems to be required as the series is interested in this aspect of the universe in particular. And in season 2 of’American Gods is bad news for the moment, it is hoped that it will be done.

Ian McShane and Keanu Reeves

But this is not all because Zlotnick also reveals what we wanted to know everything : the format of the series and the identity of the main character. We would, therefore, be entitled to a season of 8 episodes of an hour while the hero would be a completely new character :

“It will not be an assassin right from the start. I don’t want to say too much about the story but it is someone new in this world. His origin story, when you go back to the beginning, without his knowledge, has links with this universe.

The story takes place in the present time, but a lot of the dramas that are to take place today will be enriched by what has happened in the past. I think that the timeline of the series is parallel to that of the movies, so the two works are contemporary while being separated. These are characters separate stories that are separate but yet it remains anchored in the world of John Wick.

We think of 8 one-hour episodes for the first season. Do more might be a little exaggerated but we will discuss them. I think this should always be in phase with the needs of the story. Chad Stahelski is involved, it is a series of action and we can expect plenty of “gun fu” in it. It is the nature of the franchise.”

Promises quite enticing and intriguing it is, even if there are still two major unresolved issues : When will we see the series and Keanu Reeves will he make an appearance in the show ?
