A farmer from Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande receives prestigious award
Last Thursday, Mr. Bertrand Boutin, agricultural producer Sector Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande, Saint-Georges, received the prestigious Lawrence-Barre, one of the greatest honors of his profession, to reward involvement of fifty years in various agricultural organizations.
Thursday, December 1, during the Annual General Conference of the Union of Agricultural Producers (UPA) held in the city of Québec, Mr. Bertrand Boutin was awarded the Laurent-Barre Price aimed at thank an individual whose passage in the organization has left its mark on agricultural cause. In 2017, agricultural producer Sector Saint-Jean-de-la-Lande will combine 50 years of involvement in the UPA. He participated in the creation of the Agricultural Management Centre of Beauce-Sud, rural family home of Saint-Romain or the cheese The Golden Nugget. “The region has great leaders, including Mr. Boutin is one,” said Sylvain Bourque, president of the UPA Union of Beauce-Sartigan. Mr. Boutin had left him his place in the fall.
A prestigious career in agriculture
During his long career, Bertrand Boutin has been awarded numerous awards including the Gold Medal of the National Order of Agricultural Merit in 1992, Marcel Lessard Merit in 2004, the title of favorite personality of the Audrey-Lehoux Foundation. It was also the first Beauceron to be inducted into the Hall of Fame in agriculture. During the ceremony, he thanked his wife Dorothy Bourque, whose sacrifices have made possible all these achievements. The UPA Federation Chaudière-Appalaches brings together 9175 farmers present owners of 5750 farms in the territory of the 10 MRC of the administrative region.
