Acquired by General Motors, the startup Cruise Automation continues its mission, develop the technology of the autonomous car. To do this, it uses the Chevy Bolt, which has the distinction of being fully electric.

Up to now, the experiments with the autonomous car will proceed without too many glitches in the heart of the city of San Francisco. However, at the beginning of the month of December, there has been an accident involving a Bolt stand-alone and on a motorcycle.

While she was riding in the middle lane on a street that had three, the Bolt has attempted a maneuver to the left lane. Seeing that the space was closing, she instead returned to the path of the centre. At this moment, a motorcycle that crept between the cars in traffic was hit by the Bolt.

At the time of the impact, the Bolt was travelling at approximately 20 km/h, and the bike is 27 km/h. The whole thing took place on Oak Street.

The news was posted on Autoblog, where we can read that the motorcyclist was able to pull the side of the road in spite of the pain in the shoulder. This is not to say, however, that made the Bolt. Has it stopped it also, or has it continued its route as if nothing had happened?

Although he had acted in an autonomous car, the police officers dispatched to the scene of the accident have concluded that the motorcyclist had been wrong and would not have had to perform an overtaking by the right in this situation.

Interestingly, the law in California, does not prohibit motorcyclists to sneak between lanes in traffic, but does not authorize them to do so.
