As if the nomenclature of the automotive world was not already complex enough, Audi has announced that it will amend the name of all its models and this on a global scale.
Very soon, a numerical code of two digits ranging from 30 to 70 will be added to the names of all the vehicles of the brand of the manufacturer of Ingolstadt. This new number will be determined by the power produced by the engine of the vehicle in question.
The details remain to be confirmed, but by and large, the numeric code would be assigned this way:
30: Power from 108 to 129 horses
35: Power of 130 to 160 horses
40: Power from 161 to 200 hp
45: Power of 201 to 248 horses
50: Power of 249 to 308 horsepower
55: Power of 309 to 368 horsepower
60: Power of 369 to 455 horses
70: Power of 536 horses or more
Complicated, isn’t it?
This digital code will be added then the type of motor vehicle: TFSI, TDI, e-tron or g-tron.
For example, an Audi A4 equipped with a 2.0-litre engine developing 252 horsepower would change soon its appellation to the following: A4 50 TFSI.
This change of nomenclature is to begin with the new generation of the Audi A8. Then, over the next few months, all the models of the brand will spend, and this in all markets where the builder is active.
