Teasée for months, Castle Rock had all the assets in hand to become THE series of the summer : J. J. Abrams production, Stephen King is directly involved in the process and a premise that embraces his entire universe. It is to wonder how they could fail.

Then, our opinion will not be definitive, obviously, but, for the moment, Castle Rock is a big disappointment. Plot cardboard, rhythm flat and boring, the issues ill-defined and winks to the works of Stephen King which are more of a name-dropping opportunist that the true function intradiégétique promised. In short, in the writing, we love the medium. And yet, we still want to believe in it, because the idea is great and that we can’t imagine that they would be planted at this point.

A heavy air of Silent Hill anyway….

Obviously, our opinion does not represent the majority since, according to the latest figures, Castle Rock is the greatest success of its broadcaster, Hulu. And you know what that means : if there is success, no reason to stop in so good way. So it is with a big smile that the Hollywood Reporter just to tell us that the chain had already ordered a second season to the show runners of the series, Sam Shaw & Dustin Thomason, leaving even Thomason express themselves on this perspective :

Andre Holland live stuff chelous

“I think that, in the same way as do the books, we want to surprise the viewer on how the stories intersect. By doing like in the books, making up characters in the most unexpected places, is that what we’re trying to do. One of the things of the universe Stephen King, or the multiverse, is that very strange things can occur throughout the course of history and that this provides us with a lot of surprises in the way that works an anthology. It is really delicious to think that Kathy Bates has played both Dolores Claiborne and Annie Wilkes (Misery) when you think in terms of film adaptation. But I think it is also a way to be respectful of what Stephen through his books. One has the impression that he has already prepared a format anthological.”

So, yes, Castle Rock will return in season 2 and will confirm the transition to its status as an anthology on the American Horror Story. The difference is that if the city will remain the same, the characters and stories will change, just like the actors. So if the way the series could suddenly tell us something interesting, that would be really great.

And we, we get bored a lot
