Exercise of style in the showrunners, the crossover has already offered us a lot of beautiful sequences …
With all the superhero series squatting our screens and their universe between comingled, the crossover have become commonplace in the game of the TV series . So at a time not so long ago, there was one such event “let’s see how they will introduce us all for it to be credible” . Some have done better than others.
The Simpsons / The Griffins
It is here that some similarities between The Simpsons and the Griffins, two great series of animated rivalry since the beginning of the 2000s (many accuse Seth MacFarlane of a ” Having pumped everything on the Matt Groening series). On the other hand, they are both produced by Fox, which led to the inevitable: a crossover between the two most families barred from the United States, which took place in 2014 for the launch of the season 13 of Griffin . And unsurprisingly this episode called “The Simpsons Guy” put the dose of reference for the fans, including an epic battle between Homer and Peter, in connection with the fight equally cult of Peter against a chicken .
Friends / Dingue de toi
No need to introduce Friends, you already know. For “Mad About You” , just tell yourself that it was ultra-popular sitcom in the States with Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser. What connects the two series? New York, off race, but also and especially the actress Lisa Kudrow. Before embody Phoebe in “Friends”, the girl was part of the cast of “Mad About You” through the character of Ursula , who is none other than the twin sister Phoebe. It will accumulate in both series for a certain time. The writers of “Friends” will enjoy this connection by inviting Helen Hunt (Jamie) and Leila Kenzie (Fran) in episode 16 of season 1, wherein at a chance meeting at Central Perk, the two young women Will confound Phoebe with Ursula.
Experts / Experts Miami / Experts Manhattan
A whole bunch of experts had to cross each other from time to time. Actually, the crossover between mother-series and its spin-off were recurring (not counting CSI: Cyber), to the point where showrunners decided to create a special trilogy in 2010. We follow the investigation of Dr. Raymond Langston, from Miami to Las Vegas via New York, about an extensive human trafficking . A dark story …
The Chameleon / Profiler
Speaking of trilogy, if you are of generation 90, you have necessarily known the Saturday series before M6. Among the various proposed series, two of them broadcast on NBC, made the bet of the mixture: The Pretender and Profiler . For this special 2-hour episode, Jarod needed Samantha Waters’ help to solve a rather glaucous investigation into abductions. The icing on the cake, the profiler will even take advantage of this meeting to give him some important elements about his past. The crossover was such a success that it will be renewed in season 4 of “Profiler”, where Jarod will know an amourette with Rachel, the substitute of Samantha. BG.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer / Angel
And go, another cult series from the Saturday Night Trilogy. Good for once, nothing surprising in this association, to the extent that Angel was born in the series “Buffy the Vampire cons” before flying on its own with its spin-off (broadcast on TF1 in France). Central element of the first seasons of “Buffy” , the tumultuous relationship will know a big setback when the vampire, who felt detrimental to his girlfriend, will steer the LA side to set up his own detective firm . In spite of everything, he as the Slayer, will then make several trips back and forth between Sunnydale and the City of Angels to spin a few shots (and incidentally rolling galoshes). One of the most striking episodes remains one where Buffy finds Angel in LA This is no longer a vampire and can finally live his relationship to bottom. But losing his powers, he soon realizes that he can not protect his own half . He decides to return one day back to regain his curse and thus forget all the beautiful promises of love made to his beautiful …
X-Files / COPS
Before creating the masterpiece of his life, “Breaking Bad” , Vince Gilligan directed an episode of “X-Files” is still remembered for its originality. “Peur Bleue” was indeed shot camera in hand, in the style of the show “COPS”, which Gilligan was a big fan . WTF in this episode, which starts with the musical theme of COPS , Fox and Scully investigate a mysterious creature that terrorizes the inhabitants of a neighborhood. And like the TV show, the two agents of the FBI are constantly monitored by a camera and a film crew, to whom they give their impressions live. The concept of mockumentary (false report) which will then be emulated in TV shows ( The Office , Modern Family , Parks and Recreation …)
Community / Cougar Town
A crossover with the image of “Community” : totally perched. For short, in this sitcom geek, the character Abed proclaims to anyone who will listen that he is a fan of the series “Cougar Town” . What in reality is similar to a small chamber between friends. Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan, the executives producers of “Community” , have indeed long worked with Bill Lawrence (creator of “Cougar Town” ) of the time they ministered together on “Scrubs” . And despite the competition between channels (NBC and ABC for one to the other), the meeting finally took place in the penultimate episode of Season 2 of “Cougar Town” . As he had previously announced to his crew in “Community”, Abed was casted to play an extra in his favorite series . What he will do in a scene where it can be seen in the background of a discussion between Laurie and Travis. The favor will be returned when these two go do a cameo in an episode of “Community” . The circle is complete.
