A few hundred people marched Saturday afternoon in Montreal to protest, among other things against the recent salary increases granted to medical specialists.

The gathering was an initiative of the regroupement quebec Physicians for public plan. Nurses, doctors, workers of the health community and citizens have taken part to ask the liberal government to review the way in which currently operates the health system and the recent decisions of the minister Gaétan Barrette.

In particular, they have denounced the lack of resources and personnel in the institutions of the network. The recent agreements concluded with the Fédération des médecins spécialistes du Québec, as well as with general practitioners were also criticised.

The procession took the street to 13 p.m. from place Émilie-Gamelin and came to rest about two hours later on McGill College avenue, in front of the montreal offices of premier Philippe Couillard.

“We want that the nurses, nursing assistants, respiratory therapists to deliver their care in conditions that are safe for the patients and the patients can be cared for with dignity,” said TVA Nouvelles a participant of the event.

A walker denounced the “improper allocation and prioritization of resources” and the “poor organization of work”.

“For the past four years, there has been the application of act 10, the reform of structures in the health system, he noted, the flag of the CSN at hand. It has been a disruption of the complete system, a concentration of powers in the hands of the office of the minister, a trivialization of the role of employees, outside directors, of patients. We see the result: there is more accountability.”

The protesters were escorted out by the police Department of the City of Montréal, but the event went off without a hitch.
