This night was the 69th ceremony of the Emmy Awards, back on a track record very political and very feminist open-air Trump.

DRAMA

In the absence of Game of Thrones, which aired too late for us to hope to compete for the awards of the year, a record unprecedented was waiting for the category of drama. From Westworld to Stranger Things, Better Call Saul with This is Us, none of the series named had already won the prestigious award of best drama serial.

And finally, this is the series event in the month of April, which marked the evening : The Handmaid”s Tale. The television adaptation of the novel by Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s tale – came away with five Emmys including best drama serial, best actress for the dazzling Elisabeth Moss, best director and script for his pilot as well as best actress in a supporting role for Ann Dowd. A performance history for a series broadcast on the web via the chain Hulu.

Only two other series have managed to win an Emmy, drama (in categories where it was not named The Handmaid”s Tale) : The Crown and This Is Us. Respectively, best actor in a supporting role (John Lithgow) and best drama actor (Sterling K. Brown).

With the Emmys techniques delivered last week, the series has received 8 trophies

COMEDY

If the top drama is totally new, the comedies are always carried out by the series HBO’s Veep , and its lead performer Julia Louis-Dreyfus. The actress leaves with a sixth Emmys in a row for best actress in a comedy and the show won the award a major for the third time in three years.

In men, the talented Donald Glover won two awards for his series Atlanta : best actor and best directing for the episode 7 of season (B. A. N.). For their part, Aziz Ansari and Master of None have received the best scenario award for the episode Thanksgiving.

Finally, the Saturday Night Live saw Alec Baldwin for the role of Donald Trump, and Kate McKinnon for multiple characters rewarded the best actor in a supporting role and best actress in a supporting role.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is the only actress to have received six Emmys in this category

MINI-SERIES / TELEFILM

HBO had reason to fear the absence of his flagship series Game of Thrones , but the chain has been able to do without this night. First of all, thanks to the award given to riz Ahmed on The Night Of. Then, above all thanks to Big Little Lies, with five trophies.

The show of Jean-Marc Vallée and David E. Kelley takes home the Emmys for best mini-series, best direction and best actor for Alexander Skarsgård. The ceremony was especially beautiful use of his actresses (the image of The Handmaid”s Tale). Nicole Kidman has won the first Emmy of his career, that of best actress. Same fate for Laura Dern, award-winning, it, for his second role.

For its part, after The Crown and Master of None, and Netflix are taking two other awards thanks to Black Mirror : best telefilm and best screenplay for the episode San Junipero.

THE POLICY AT THE HEART

Not to mention the intervention surprise of the former spokesman of the american president, Sean Spicer, the themes of the series rewarded are strong signals in the era Trump !

Two show feminists denouncing the violence suffered by women with The Handmaid’s Tale and Big Little Lies. A political satire that rides the wave of the election of Donald Trump in his sixth season with Veep. A ferocious critic of the american president with the SNL. Finally, a real cultural diversity of award-winning in with Donald Glover, Rice Ahmed, Sterling K. Brown or Aziz Ansari. Beyond the simple ranking, the 69th ceremony of the Emmy Awards was, therefore, proved, above all, political.
