Rare are the things that have not changed or that were not in the least changed since the last fifty years. However, there are some exceptions that distort the situation.

For example, the Ford F-150, which sits at the top of the best selling cars in Canada for over 50 years. In fact, it has now been 51 years since the truck was american reign in the country of the beaver and the maple leaf.

Although the competitors of Ford manufacture them also good products, we can easily understand why the F-150 impresses as much as the Canadians. For the moment, this is the only place to offer a body fully made of aluminum and a chassis made of 100 % steel. A combination that allows the F-150 to be the first of its class for towing capacity (up to 13 200 lb), and loading (3270 lb).

    Changes to the powertrain

For this new edition 2018, Ford is offering some interesting new features, including the addition of the automatic transmission 10 reports that were already aboard the Raptor.

The implementation of this gearbox enables a reduction in fuel consumption ranging from 2 to 3 litres per 100 kilometres for three of the five engines of the F-150, including the inner workings of two and four-wheel drive. The only block that is not related to this transmission is the new engine of 3.3 litres which can be found at the edge of the editions of the entry-level. The latter is annexed to an automatic transmission with six reports.

Among the other drives, as proposed, we note the return of the turbocharged EcoBoost 2.7-liter, the smallest block of the history of this legendary pickup truck. Although this option is less powerful than the V8 engine of 5.0 L (325 horses against 395), it develops as much torque (400 lb-ft).

    Technologies practices

Also of note this year is the addition of two technologies that will surely be appreciated by the majority of customers to Ford. The first is a cruise control system with optional stop/start (stop-and-go) which allows the vehicle to follow traffic at low speed in the situation of high traffic. It allows the truck to ride at low speed, stopping if necessary, and start again automatically in less than three seconds when traffic allows. The driver must re-engage itself the conduct if the detention lasts longer than three seconds.

The second technology that is inserted at the edge of the F-150 2018 is a support system in tow, the Pro trailer backup assist. This last will be useful for drivers who do not have the habit of towing anything with their vehicles, while the ” old ” bouderont probably this device which is offered as an option.

In sum, the on-board computer locates the articulation of towing thanks to a callsign to checkerboard in order to check the stability.

The direction control is done using a roulette wheel, which is located on the dashboard, not far from the screen for the reversing camera.

This system allows you to control the direction intuitively instead of being counter-intuitive, as is the case when one steps back and directs the truck to the wheel. When you turn the control to the left, the load being towed moves it also to the left. When you release the control, direction, returns to right itself, avoiding additional handling to align everything.

The people who have the habit of using the good old method will have to take a few minutes to adjust. It is, however, a great tool that is easy to understand and use, especially for the neophytes of the tow.

    Cosmetic changes

In addition to these additions in technology, the declination of 2018 for the F-150 also benefits from a remodeling aesthetic part. On the menu: new front headlights, new grille, new interior finishes, additions of new alloy wheels, new exterior colours… in Short, the edition 2018 differs widely from the previous one through these a few touch-ups.

A diesel engine for the spring of 2018

The declination of 2018 for the F-150 is available now in the vast majority of Ford dealerships in Quebec. The american manufacturer will propose by next spring a new edition of the F-150 that will be powered by a diesel engine. It’s a safe bet that this version will increase the odds of the truck from the us who seems to be entrenched as the vehicle the most popular Canada and United States.
