Jewellery trends for 2022
Fashion trends arise from a variety of influences including social, political and cultural values of the time. Many designs have become a statement of a particular decade or era such as the flapper dresses of the 1920s, the baby doll dresses and boots of the 1960s and the hippy styles of the 1970s.
Often, classic looks of a particular time in history will repeat over the years and become a ‘new’ trend, but perhaps with a twist. Examples of this include bootcut and flared jeans, jumpsuits and platform shoes.
And it’s not just clothing that follows trends. Jewellery also has its place in the fashion stakes and has earned itself some iconic looks throughout history. Think art deco pieces form the 1920s, the glamourous dazzle of the 40s and 50s and the oversized styles of the 80s.
Here we’ll take a look at the jewellery trends for 2022 for both men and women and explore some of the hottest looks for this year.
Men’s jewellery trends
Jewellery for men dominated the runways recently, creating one of this year’s biggest trends. Chains, rings, earrings and bracelets are all up for grabs as anything goes this year. Colourful pieces such as long acrylic pendants and layered cuffs are sure to attract attention, whilst heavy gold chains are also making a comeback.
Pearls might traditionally be a glamourous 1950s look, but this year we’ll see the trend expand and include men’s jewellery styles. Silver rings will be overstated and worn in multiples for added impact.
2022 is also the year to dazzle. Diamonds have always been top of the list when it comes to the wow factor and, this season, men’s diamond earrings are back with a bang. Embellished, simple, dressed down with casual jeans and a t-shirt or the final touch for a glittering night out, these are guaranteed to add style to any look.
Women’s jewellery trends
Following a similar trend to clothing, a big look this year for jewellery will be bright, bold colours and statement pieces. Necklaces, earrings and bracelets will have a hint of playful cheekiness and should complement individual personalities.
As we emerge from the isolation of the past couple of years, we’ll see 2022 as the time to show off our bling and shy away from more subtle, delicate pieces.
Gold chains will also be a key trend with oversized chokers, chunky styles and layering adding a unique edge to a classic look.
Whatever jewellery trend you opt for in 2022, it’s all about reflecting your own individual and unique style. And with so much choice, it’s easy to create your own look.
