Paul Verhoeven, Chairman of the Jury of the Berlinale 2017

The organizers of the 2017 Berlin Festival have announced the name of the president of the jury: it will be the Dutch filmmaker Paul Verhoeven.

Back to film business with “She”, in competition at the last Cannes Film Festival and nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film under the banner of France (the film was financed by French producers, Editor’s note) the Dutch filmmaker will chair the jury of the 67th Berlin Film Festival, which this year takes place from 9 to 19 February. He succeeds in this role to the American actress Meryl Streep, who had handed the Golden Bear documentary on migrants’ Fuocoammare – beyond Lampedusa “Gianfranco Rosi.

“With Paul Verhoeven as president of the jury, we have a director who has worked in a variety of genres in Europe and Hollywood. His creativity, his multifaceted boldness, willingness to experiment are found throughout his work, “said Dieter Kosslick, director of the Berlinale. Among the major films of Paul Verhoeven include “Robocop,” “Basic Instinct,” “Total Recall” and “Blackbook”. The films in competition will be announced later.
