    The maximum towing capacity of the Ram 1500, for example, is increased to 12 750 pounds, a substantial increase of 2300 pounds compared to the model 2018. It remains, however, is less his great enemy, the Ford F-150, which can take up to 13 200 books. Speaking of the F-150, Ram has not followed in the footsteps of Ford and its massive use of aluminum. This year, it even has built-in power outlets, 115-volt.     In addition to technology, the high-end versions of the new Ram, also put the emphasis on luxury equipment such as rear seats, heated and ventilated, a panoramic sunroof and an adjustable air suspension in three configurations.

    The diesel is delayed

    Despite the many changes to the Ram 1500 in 2019, we remain on familiar ground under the hood. Two engines are offered, a V6 3.6-liter (305 hp) and a V8 of 5.7 litres (395 horsepower).

    It is a choice of two engines tested for a long time at Chrysler. Two engines which have proven their worth. Once again, Ram will keep a discomfort to imitate Ford and is not trying his luck by offering an engine smaller with a turbocharger.

    However, the Ram includes this year a system of “mild hybrid” baptized eTorque. Offered standard with the V6 and optional on the V8, this system includes a battery 48 volts that replaces the alternator, traditional which allows the stop and the automatic restart of the engine and which can provide additional power during certain manoeuvres of acceleration.

    On the road, you will not feel not even the difference. Ram promises, however, a 10% improvement in the fuel consumption of its new 1500 due to this system. A need, however, to wait for the official figures to have the heart net.

    The variant with diesel engine, it could wait for a few months. By his own admission, Ram has difficulty approved by the EPA, in the United States. We are promised, however, that it is happening. Hopefully for them, because the Ford F-150 and the Chevrolet Silverado to arrive (finally) with diesel engines.

    In the meantime, it will have to settle for the V6 and the V8 petrol. It is very little choice, when we know that the F-150 will soon be available with six different engines.     But hey, with seven versions and three lengths of cabins, and Ram is no slouch either. The new 1500 is another proof that the american manufacturers are still the kings and masters of this category.

    A price that raised some eyebrows

    For this new model, Ram announced a starting price of 42 095$. And to qualify for the four wheels, you will need to lengthen at least 4000$ extra. In comparison, the Ford F-150, champion of the sales of this category, is offered in the bar of 30 000$.

    However, it should be know that Ram (and the entire group FCA) is used to announce a very high price and offer substantial discounts for the following, question to lean against the competition.

    You may pay quite a bit cheaper at the dealer than the price advertised by the manufacturer. It gives the impression to the consumer getting a good deal, but at the bottom, it often ends up paying the price that would have simply had to be announced at the start. A funny strategy…

    Also note that the older generation of the Ram 1500 will continue to be marketed as a model year 2019, with the new. Perhaps this is the opportunity to find a bargain.
