Scandal Season 6: Episode 3, Will Cyrus Finish in Prison? Our criticism
Check out our review of Scandal’s Season 6 episode 3, which was aired last night on ABC, as well as the promo video for the upcoming episode!
It was a pleasure to see Scandal again this week, although the episode was a little less exciting than the previous two. Why ? Because “Fates Worse Than Death” is mainly centered on Cyrus and consists of flashbacks intended to make us understand what happened before the jump in time and that breaks the rhythm. If in episode 2 of season 6 of Scandal the flashbacks were perfectly incorporated to the rest of the plot, here they are a little too present. Moreover, we are not going to lie, the atmosphere that reigns on this episode is not the most cheerful. In this episode, Cyrus passes from future President of the Republic to future detainee and we learn a little more about what happened between Francisco and him, without knowing 100% who is the murderer of the latter.
While Cyrus’ house is surrounded by the press, he tells Michael that it is Olivia Pope who is behind all this because she is ready to do anything for her candidate to become President. Meanwhile, Abby seems to think the same and prefers to be on Cyrus’s side than her best friend. However, Fitz continues to believe Olivia and proposes a deal to Cyrus: if he refuses to become President, Fitz promises him his clemency and will stop the investigation. Obviously, Cyrus refuses this offer, but a call from Tom will topple everything … We discover that Cyrus and Tom saw each other during the election campaign, and that he still has feelings for Cyrus, and he is ready To prove it. Cyrus confides to him the problems he encounters with one of the volunteers, the famous Jennifer, who seems to be too close to Vargas. Tom promises to take care of it and as one would expect, there was not gone with the back of the spoon. Poor Jennifer got beaten up and Cyrus, scared as he discovered it, asked Tom to do nothing for him and not to kill him.
Did Tom listen to Cyrus’s words? For the moment, doubt hangs, since during their confrontation Tom never confesses to having killed Vargas. On the other hand, that’s what he says to the FBI! While Cyrus finally changed his mind and was ready to accept Fitz’s offer, Tom went to the FBI and confessed that he had killed Vargas on orders from Cyrus Beene . While he has just made a poignant speech to Michael, saying that he would really like to be a model for young Americans, the police just stop him and his world is collapsing. “There are worse spells than death ,” Tom told Cyrus and so now is what awaits him. Scandal’s Season 6 episode 3 makes us very uncomfortable because it shows that Cyrus is certainly not responsible – at least directly – for the murder of Vargas. Moreover, it has even been discovered that it was Vargas who made Cyrus his Vice-President, and not Cyrus who won. Was Olivia wrong in thinking that Cyrus would go so far for power? For if it is true that Cyrus certainly deserves prison for all that he has done before, if it is not the guilty one it means that the murderer of Francisco Vargas always runs.
Moreover, Cyrus’s arrest means that Mellie has all her chances on her side to be elected new President of the United States and one could not help but let go a little cry of joy when Olivia announces it. It is hoped that the next episodes will not all focus on one particular character, as this breaks the dynamics of the series. In any case, if you believe the episode 4 promotional video, which you can see above, it is not yet necessary to shout victory for Mellie because nothing is done . Moreover, the video announces a reversal of situation that could change everything, besides that we can see Cyrus swearing to Olivia on the phone that he is innocent. Will Olivia finally believe it? One thing is sure, strongly next week! What did you think of this episode?
