Cinema 22 February, 2017

James McAvoy is now playing the movie Split in which he lends his traits to no fewer than nine different characters. A challenging role!
James McAvoy is an actor who has proved his talent on many occasions in different genres and we find him today in the poster of Mr. Night Shyamalan’s latest film, Split . The film team was present in Paris a few weeks ago and we had the chance to meet them and ask them a few questions. Early in the day, we had the chance to discover our exclusive interview with Anya Taylor-Joy for the release of Split , and it is now James McAvoy ‘s turn to take on this role that highlights his acting skills!

You play a man who has 24 different personalities and you play 9 on the screen. How did you prepare for such an intense role?
James McAvoy – I did my job in 9 different ways. I adopted different postures, a way of speaking to each personality, I got to know their history and the things that each personality wanted to get. The biggest challenge was to be able to melt into these characters as simply as if I were playing one. It was complicated, but the script was good and the story interesting.
What was the hardest and easiest personality to play for you?
The hardest part was probably the last one because ultimately it is the least human of all. It is a very bestial character, it was necessary to find the right balance to represent its strength, without going too far and losing the credibility of the personage. The funniest thing was Patricia, it’s always funny for me to wear high heels and a skirt. She is a little naughty too!
Do you think people can really change physically like Kevin does?
Not at this point, but I think what happens in our head can really affect our body. When we’re in love, we change, when we’re upset too … So yes I think we can change, but not as much as Kevin.
You played many different roles, what challenge do you look for when you accept a new project?
Is that something I’ve already done, that’s going to bring me something new, is it going to be fun …
What is your best memory of filming on Split ?
When we finish a scene with Mr. Night Shyamalan and we know that it is successful … We feel really good about the shooting, he has worked for a long time with the same team and we really feel like a family . That’s what I liked most about this shoot.
