For the most recent generation of its F-150, Ford has decided to use aluminium. It’s been a few laughs and it continues to do so.
On Automotive News, one can read that General Motors provides to it, using the carbon fiber and the thermoplastic in the design of the cargo box of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
Note that carbon fiber is recognized for its lightness and its resistance, much more than in the case of steel and even aluminum.
You may believe that this shift to carbon fiber to lessen the Silverado and Sierra, and offer a fuel consumption more than competitive without sacrificing its capabilities.

Until now, carbon fiber was reserved, or almost, vehicles, sport or luxury. Not the pickups…
There is still an important qualification. What will happen in case of accident? How much will it cost to repair a cargo box made from carbon fiber? Let’s not forget that the Silverado and Sierra are often used as a working tool and it is not always the easy life.
For the moment, General Motors is not confirmation of anything. It is simply a question of reliable sources that have spoken to Automotive News. But we must remember that in 2011, General Motors announced that it began its development of the carbon fiber and the thermoplastic in collaboration with the japanese company Teijin Limited.
