Valerian: The best start for a Luc Besson film in France!

Cinema 31 July, 2017

The spectators were eager to discover Valerian in the movies! The proof at the box office since the film makes the second best start of the year including the best of Besson’s career.

Valerian was eagerly awaited at the cinema. This French production had the heavy task of offering a space blockbuster to the international cast for a budget never reached so far in our country. At his controls? Luc Besson, known for Leo, Nikita or The Fifth Element. Good news for the latter: Valerian, of which two suites are already planned, achieved the second best start of the year in France with 375,400 admissions. The film is positioned just behind Moi, Moche and Méchant 3 which spawned 455,713 entries. Then followed by Fast and Furious 8, Pirates of the Caribbean 5 and Fifty Nuances Plus Dark.

A score that should reassure Luc Besson and Europacorp who have relied heavily on this Valerian, film based on the bursts after Dan DeHaan and Clara Delevingne. Not to mention that the film recorded the best start of the director’s career before Lucy and The Fifth Element. Despite the presence of Dunkerque directed by Christopher Nolan and Baby Driver by Edgar Wright, Luc Besson is doing pretty well. If the numbers continue to climb, Valerian should therefore be profitable. Enough to allow the filmmaker to approach serenely a trilogy for this cinematographic adaptation of the famous comic strip.
