Romantic ideas to surprise your partner with on Valentine’s Day

Entertainment 8 February, 2022

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re lucky enough to be spending it with a significant other, it’s likely you will want to shower them with gifts and surprises on the day of love. Social media can often put us under pressure to pull out a showstopper for V-day, but your gift or surprise doesn’t have to break the bank. With the average Brit spending roughly £35 on their partner on Valentine’s day, it’s not unreasonable to conclude that V-day is more about the thought you put in, rather than the amount of money you spend. One of the best ways of commemorating Valentine’s Day is through surprising your significant other. Here’s how!

Breakfast in bed

Put in the extra effort to set your alarm early and get busy in the kitchen. Whether your partner prefers a fry up, avocado on toast, or a stack of pancakes, make sure you perfect the recipe so they can have the perfect breakfast in bed. There is nothing quite like being woken up to your favourite food and a cup of fresh coffee – acts of service really say “I love you”.

Rose trail

A bouquet of roses is the go-to on Valentines Day. You may however want to get a bit creative and leave individual roses laying round the house for your significant other to find throughout the day. Perhaps you may put one in their underwear draw, or one on the steering wheel of their car. This is a great way to get some more fun out of a bunch of flowers.

Handwritten cards

Instead of opting for a generic store-bought card, it would mean so much more to your loved one if you took the time to make one and wrote a thoughtful and personal message inside. This way you can get creative and include inside jokes and an element of personalisation. The card will then be a sentimental part of the relationship which you can look back on.

An outdoor adventure

On the morning of Valentine’s Day wake your partner up to their bags fully packed ready for a romantic outdoor getaway. Setting up a tent in the wilderness is a great way to bond, and you will get to spend uninterrupted time with your partner as you escape the mundanities of daily life. Stargazing with the person you love can be particularly special.

If your significant other doesn’t fare too well camping, you may want to tone it down a notch and opt for a picnic instead. Here you can really show how much you love your partner by packing all their favourite foods and demonstrating how much time and effort you are willing to put into spending quality time with them. You can finish off your homemade meal with a sweet treat for dessert such as a personalised chocolate gift set which will really give that personal touch.

Whatever you choose to do, it’s the thought that counts! Whether you opt for a traditional date night or get a bit more creative, make sure you show your loved one how much they mean to you.
