The moment that everybody was afraid of is come the last weekend when Joss Whedon announced that Buffy the vampire slayer was going to be entitled to the reboot. And it has not been as happy.
It should also be said that in this moment everything and anything is done reboot. Finally, when it was even right to a reboot of Roswell, if it is not a sign that the tv channels are in free wheel ! But with Buffy against the vampires it is a little different since the series is still a cult for a whole generation of spectators.
Buffy
If some are comforted by the fact that Joss Whedon will oversee the project from his chair, producer, the big concern that has been raised concerns the positioning of the showrunneuse in charge of the project Monica Owusu-Breen, and especially the decision that has been taken to change the skin color of the Killer. If we are not going to go on a debate on ethnic and racial of the most foul-smelling, let’s just say that this change shakes up the image of the heroine in the hearts of fans and, as is well known, a fan is not always ready for a change. This is to prepare the ground and to reassure everyone that the showrunneuse is therefore expressed on his Twitter page :
“For some, it is Star Wars and for me, Buffy is my Star Wars. Before I became a writer, I was a fan. For 7 seasons, I have watched Buffy grow up, find love, kill this love. I have followed her fight.
There is only one Buffy. There is only one Alex, Willow, Giles, Cordelia, Oz, Kendra, Tara, Faith, Spike, Angel… They can’t be replaced. You can’t do the series gorgeous and brilliant Joss Whedon. Even I would not. And yet, here we are, 20 years later… And the world seems more terrifying than ever. So maybe is it time to discover a new Killer. This is all I have to say.”
Of about course, reassuring that might give us a possible angle of approach to this reboot which would not be a in the end. In fact, he could not use the name of Buffy, damn seller, and does not alter the mythology already established. It is, in any case, the option that seems the most sensible. Hope that this is the case.
