Accused of sexual harassment, Harvey Weinstein has been sacked – Gala
scandal
The New York Times has sent the bomb last Thursday, October 5: Harvey Weinstein, founder of Miramax and The Weintein company, one of the most powerful magnates of the film industry, is alleged to have harassed many women since the 90’s up until today. Result: its board of directors has decided on Sunday to his ouster.
He had announced “take leave”, it was finally returned. Harvey Weinstein, in the wake of allegations of sexual harassment, was dismissed from the company he founded in 2005, The Weinstein Company for violating the code of conduct. Since the publication of an article in the New York Times, presenting him as a sexual predator unpunished since the beginning of the years 90, this boss hyperpuissant is in the process of sinking.
After the case Bill Cosby, this is a new sex scandal that shook the american film industry. Weinstein is the one who revealed Quentin Tarantino, who has produced several films oscarisés including Shakespeare in love, The English Patient, Chicago, The king’s speech, and of course The Artist, a film marked by a campaign very intense for Jean Dujardin and Michel Hazanavicius. His aura and his ability to make and break careers, was no longer to prove. Grateful to have caused “much suffering”, he apologized, in part, by the fact of having started in the 60’s and 70’s “when all the rules about behavior and the workplace were different.” A line of defence that has not convinced the board of directors of his company, led now by the brother of Harvey, Bob.
His “escapades” with the women seem to have always been known in Hollywood, “the secret of the worst kept” according to the Hollywood reporter, without ever Weinstein is worried. And because the New York Times revealed Thursday, October 5, that not less than 8 contracts of confidentiality so that the victims can at no time be detrimental to the image and the proper functioning of the company. Rose McGowan (Scream), one of the actresses affected by the abuse of Weinstein has thus acknowledged that it had received 100,000 dollars to keep quiet.
For the moment, no one has news of Harvey Weinstein, who has decided to take a step back to “fight his demons”. But the scandal is only beginning.
