Each day, patients with type 2 diabetes must avoid the temptations present around them : sweets, sugary drinks and dinners rich. This is why researchers have developed an app encouraging the patient to spend the most possible. An effort indispensable to their health. In fact, this disease often coexists with obesity, which triggers a dangerous cycle. Obese patients suffer from joint pain, which limits their ability or their desire to do physical activity. As patients limit their physical activity, they gain more weight and their disease worsens.
To educate and encourage
To overcome these barriers, a research team in the us has developed the interactive application of the idea of making it clear to patients the purpose and importance of physical activity in the management of their disease and motivate them to achieve this important change of behavior. At the beginning, the user enters his value in blood sugar (A1c), and a few vital information base. The program draws a curve average ideal of sugar in the blood, which is based on the A1c value of the patient. The participant can see the difference between the curves for expected and actual, which is effective for the sensitization.
In the future, the research team hopes to adapt this approach to customize the application by creating curves of glucose, specific to each patient. They also hope to integrate this work in the middle of clinical care in order to give providers additional tools to educate their patients
