Macular degeneration age-related (AMD), macular degeneration, diabetic, retinal vein occlusion (OVR), these pathologies affect a small part of the retina : the macula, which is a vital role in the vision of the details

In order to preserve and encourage early treatment, screenings are organised from 26 to 30 June, on the occasion of the second edition of the national Days of the macula.

Everywhere in France, ophthalmologists are organized to offer them – free or paid, according to the centres – in order to maximize the chances of preserving vision satisfactory. They will carry out a review of the merits of eye in persons aged over 55 years or with diabetes, which have not been subject to a review for at least a year.

Inform on the signs

These days are also the opportunity to continue the information campaigns carried out since several years at the national level. As well, ophthalmologists remind that the signs of involvement of the macula is reflected for example by a distorted vision of straight lines, or by the appearance of spots fixed in the center of the eye. These signs must lead to an emergency consultation.

AMD is the leading cause of visual impairment in people older than 50 years old : it concerns more than a million people in France. It is often detected late, because its installation is progressive, and often asymptomatic at first. If nothing is done, people lose their central vision.
