His family said that he was optimistic. Former president of Olympique de Marseille, Bernard Tapie is currently suffering from a stomach cancer. His wife, Dominique, made the announcement to AFP on 24th September. The business man of 74 years is followed at the hôpital Saint-Louis (Paris), where it should be soon operated. “Bernard suffers from cancer of the stomach with extension on the bottom of the esophagus,” said Ms. Tapie to our colleagues.
Bernard Tapie follows for the time being, chemotherapy in the oncology department of the hospital Saint-Louis. He should, thereafter, be operated. A traditional care for this form of cancer. As stated in the national Cancer Institute (INCa), the drug treatment is indicated in the forms “locally advanced” before or after the surgery.
3 % of cancers in France
Stomach cancer most often affects men that match the profile of Bernard Tapie. Two-thirds of the patients diagnosed are male, and usually older than 50 years. Each year, 6 550 new cases are diagnosed. This represents 3 % of new diagnoses. The mortality rate has drastically declined, but the prognosis remains relatively poor if metastases are formed.
Some of the factors that contribute to the occurrence of a cancer of the stomach. Chronic infection by the bacterium Helicobacter pylori, in particular, but also the smoking or a diet low in fruits and vegetables.
The statements of Ms. Tapie remain more positive than those of René Malleville, bear emblematic of the OM. In a video message posted on Twitter, he talked of a generalized cancer.

The term “generalized cancer” means a cancer for which the initial tumor was métastasée. In other words, cancer cells have migrated to other organs also get sick. To reach such a stage is usually synonymous with a poor prognosis, as metastatic cancers are particularly difficult to treat.
Some organs are more exposed than others to the risk of metastasis. Cancers of the breast, for example, but also of the lung, or prostate. In the latter case, it is especially at the level of the os that the metastases are formed.
