Blood donation : the EFS has launched an appeal to holidaymakers

At the end of June, the French Establishment of blood (EFS) had launched an urgent appeal for donations, because he was facing a major shortage. A call to which the French responded, to restore the stocks afloat.

But in the beginning of the month of August, the situation is again difficult. The EFS is intended, therefore, to the people to give a little of themselves and their time, to help meet the needs : each day, 10 000 donations are needed.

Give on the beach

Nothing serves to give mass to be quiet several months. The shelf life of blood products is short : 5 days for platelets and 42 for red blood cells. Donations must therefore be constant.

And, unfortunately, when the donors are on vacation, they do not give more. This is why the EFS will move on to the vacation spots of the French. Numerous mobile collections are organized everywhere in France, especially in the sea.

In 2015, more than 1.5 million people have given their blood, often several times : 2.8 million samples have been made. Three-quarters of an hour, the matter is resolved. Less than an hour of vacation to save a life, it is time that is not really lost.
