Breast Cancer : a new site directs the women according to their age

The National Cancer Institute (INCa) launches a new website dedicated to breast cancer on the occasion of the world Day of fight against cancer this Sunday, February 4, to “get informed and decide.” 54 000 new cases are diagnosed each year and approximately 12 000 deaths have been reported. Cure breast cancer depends on several factors, including the age, size and type of the tumour and the stage of the disease. Generally, an early diagnosis of the tumor is more likely to be treated successfully : the 5-year survival is 99 % for breast cancer detected at an early stage, it is 26 % for a metastasized cancer.

The prevention according to age

Oriented mainly on the screening, the site can get its age and to gain access to information in connection with the following : a woman under 40 years of age access to information on prevention, such as important to make an annual examination of the breasts and the symptoms to prevent the disease. Those aged 40 to 49 years of age will receive information about the origin of the disease, its risk factors and symptoms. Finally, women aged 50 to 74 years of age will be informed about the breast cancer screening, which is recommended every two years. Those aged over 75 years will be aware of the symptoms to watch out for, risk factors and the importance of talking with their doctor.

Eight breast cancers in 10 occur after 50 years and more than 47 % of them are diagnosed in women 65 years and older. The site insists on “real chance of cure when the cancer occurs in a woman under 40 years of age. It also speaks of the mammogram, possible antecedents that may contribute to the development of the disease and the support. A section is also devoted to the questions of internet users.
