HBO is very quiet on its next big series Confederate. But certain elements allow us to understand why we hear so little about.

Announced in July as the next big project prestigeux show runners of Game Of Thrones, David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, Confederate no news for nearly four months. A few names of writers have been balanced here and there, an early synopsis has been unveiled, and then nothing. Not the beginning of casting, not by the details of the scenario or the characters, on the duration and number of episodes, nor on the universe of the series. Nada. Walou. Skin of penis’. Then what happens ?

Already, know that the synopsis of the series has been very badly received. In short, the series Confederate is a series around the Civil war, but in a timeline alternative in which the South came out victorious in the conflict, managing to secede precisely and elevating the practice of black slavery to the status of a modern institution. Except that, as you surely know, the racial violence and racism are issues that are very touchy at this time in the US, after the excitement triggered by the movement Black Lives Matter and the incidents of the summer of Charlottesville : the return of the flames on twitter was instant.

We do not begrudge both HBO a timing issue (even if this doesn’t help) but more a problem of “serious” in their announcement to the press : a simple e-mail sent to journalists, and the public had the impression that the chain was waving carelessly themes serious to package and sell a product pop-culture to the taste of suffering, exploiting a material controversy cynically. HBO recognizes it very well since Richard Plepler, the head of the string, thus comments on this return of the flames to Deadline in October :

“We really screwed up by trying to explain a complicated topic in three paragraphs”.

This silence is easily explainable: HBO waiting for things to break down, to such a point that the Washington Post reports today that the series “is not actively in the course of work”. In the clear, nobody will care. So it is understandable for David Benioff and D. B. Weiss, currently in the process of overseeing the last season of the series-the most watched in the world, but not even the writers? Then also, we have an explanation for you, and unfortunately, it does that press the nail against the string wired : Amazon has announced a series of the name of Black America, and who told how, in an timeline alternative here, too, black slaves were successful in seizing the states of the South for them after the war of Secession, forming a new sovereign and independent state. Needless to say, the announcement of this series has been infiniement more welcomed than that of the Confederate.

Hahahaha, racism!
