Elton John struck down by a serious infection
British star Elton John canceled concerts scheduled in the US in April and May after a “life-threatening” bacterial infection that he is currently recovering at his home in the UK.
The 70-year-old artist spent two nights in intensive care on his return in early April from a South American tour, his communications agency Murray Chalmers said in a statement Tuesday.
He fell “seriously ill” during the flight between Santiago, the capital of Chile, and London on April 10 and was directly hospitalized upon his arrival “for a rare and potentially life-threatening bacterial infection”.
Elton John, who sold more than 250 million albums worldwide, only left the hospital on April 22 and has since rested at his home near Windsor, west of London.
The doctors think that he will recover quickly and that he will be able to return on stage on June 3 in London. But in the meantime, the planned concerts in the US in Las Vegas and Bakersfield, had to be canceled.
Elton John “apologized” in a statement to “disappoint” his “incredible and loyal fans” and paid tribute to the medical team that “took such care” of him.
After long struggling with drug addiction and eating disorders, Elton John became the father of two sons and married his longtime companion David Furnish after the legalization of gay marriage in 2014 in England.
