In 10 years, the number of doctors graduating from outside of France and operating on our territory has almost doubled. In 2017, the 26 805 medical graduates, including 22 619 practitioners, are enrolled in the College of physicians. In 2007, they were 14 000, reports the Atlas population of the national Council of the Order of physicians (CNOM) presented on 12 October.

“These doctors are not invaders. Decide to practice in another country is a sudden decision that is not easy to take, has raised Dr. François Arnaud, general delegate to the internal relations of the CNOM during the presentation of the Atlas. This departure is further triggered by the conditions in the country of origin than in the host country. “

More than 4 000 doctors romanians in 2017

In France, more than half of foreign-trained doctors come from Europe. And the image of the Romanian doctor is not a cliche. In 2017, more than 40 % of the doctors graduating from outside of France come to this country from eastern Europe, 4 254 doctors. It is 7.5 times more than in 2007. “Romania is détroussée of all of its physicians, which is a political problem acute in this country,” said Dr. Arnaud. Then come the belgian physicians (16 %), Italian, German and Spanish.

Some 12 500 practitioners travel more miles and do not hesitate to cross the Mediterranean. The doctors algerians represent more than one-third of the physicians trained outside the EU. Practitioners syrians, moroccans, tunisians and malagasy also come to settle in France.
