Game of Thrones season 7: Did Theon make the right decision?

Is Theon Greyjoy’s decision in episode 2 of Season 7 of Game of Thrones more subtle and less cowardly than it seems?

Do not judge too quickly the decision made by Theon Greyjoy in episode 2 of Game of Thrones’ Season 7, as it may well be more thoughtful than it sounds. To recap, in “Stormborn”, while they are on their way to Dorne, they have the misfortune to meet the fleet of Euron Greyjoy who is there to collect his gift for Cersei. Euron’s men quickly take over, two Sand Snakes are killed, the last and Ellaria are captured and Yara is trapped by Euron. Only Theon is still free and faced with his sister’s distress, and his uncle’s hurtful words, he surprised everyone by jumping overboard rather than fighting to save Yara. But is this act really cowardly or does Theon show more common sense than it is granted?

Indeed, it must be remembered that Theon is not the same man since Ramsay broke and transformed into Reek for a long time. He still feels guilty of having betrayed the Stark and especially Robb and no longer has any real consideration for his own life. Since then, he has tried to redeem himself as much as he can and often lives at the risk of his life. So why does not he head down to Euron to free Yara? Perhaps because he knew full well that this would only lead to his sister’s death. Euron is a bloodthirsty and violent man who would probably have liked to kill Yara under Theon’s eyes to humiliate him a little more.

To throw himself on his uncle, who would certainly have led to his death, would finally have brought him the peace he seeks, especially because it was a matter of sacrificing himself to save someone he loves. It is then possible that Theon did this in order to spare his sister and find a way to save her that is more clever than a face-to-face with Euron against whom he would surely lose. If Theon wants to save his sister and beat Euron, he can not die on this boat, he must survive. Underneath his coward, it may well be that Theon has finally shown a lot of bravery and it is the next episodes of Game of Thrones that will confirm or not this theory. Meanwhile, know that you can discover what awaits you in Season 7 episode 3 of Game of Thrones.
