Girlboss: After 13 Reasons Why, Stranger Things … Another success for Netflix?
Girlboss landed on Netflix last Friday. Should we expect success as strong as 13 Reasons Why or Stranger Things?
It has been noticed for several years now, Netflix is a success maker. With series such as House of Cards or even Orange is The New Black in its early days, the VOD platform has succeeded in imposing itself on the landscape of television series by always offering innovative, original and sometimes provocative ideas. However, what also makes Netflix strong is its ability to impress us and fascinate us with shows that are not expected specifically. This category includes Stranger Things, The OA and 13 Reasons Why . These series, as different as they are exciting, arrived like UFOs and made the buzz as soon as the fans could discover them. Girlboss is the latest Netflix series to have appeared on the VOD platform last Friday. Should we then expect the same enthusiasm for the Girlboss series as for 13 Reasons Why?
It should first be noted that Girlboss once again addresses a theme and evolves in a totally different universe from the series mentioned above. This is the portrait of a young woman totally uninhibited, ambitious and seeking her place in this world. If the series is a very good entertainment, it must be admitted that the message conveyed is much less strong and subversive than that of 13 Reasons Why . Moreover, the plot is less engaging than the latter or that could be Stranger Things . Not to mention that the characters are also less endearing. Girlboss remains an amusing series, well-tied with a feminist tip but it is nevertheless far less revolutionary than its predecessors . If you think Girlboss will still meet the success she deserves, it’s doubtful she’ll talk as much about her as 13 Reasons Why has done in the last month.
