In Calais, the fresco by the artist KMU-a tribute to Johnny Hallyday has been vandalized by the graffiti artists of the city. The reason for this ? The latter, not being Calaisien, would not have to paint on their walls.

Two days after the death of Johnny Hallyday, artist, KMU, a native of Boulogne-sur-Mer, wished to pay tribute, in its way, to the idol of young people. What better way to do this, a huge mural bearing the image of the rocker ? It is at Calais, in the district of Beau-Marais, a few miles from his hometown, as the graffiti writer gets into action. On a wall of freedom of expression, he creates a giant portrait of Johnny in black and white. An artistic practice to which he is accustomed, since he had already celebrated the memory of David Bowie, Prince, or Jean Rochefort in the same place.

If many Calaisiens have welcomed this initiative, some wishing that nobody touches this wall, not all of them have shared the same enthusiasm. This Saturday morning, the inhabitants of the neighbourhood have discovered that the fresco of their idol had been vandalized during the night. “the walls of Calais to Calaisiens,” one can now read on the face of Johnny Hallyday. Inscriptions, which leave no doubt as to the identity of the authors. Obviously, the graffiti artists of the city were not appreciated as an artist neighbor puts her creations on their walls. An act of rivalry deemed offensive by the local residents who have not failed to do so. “It was beautiful this fresco. It is shameful,” said a Calaisienne to the Voice of The North. Like what, the music softens not always customs.
