In terms of road safety, children are greatly influenced by the conduct of their parents. This is a fact that can be drawn from a survey conducted by the association Attitude Prevention to evaluate the behaviour of the 18-24-year-olds at the wheel, their feelings and the factors impacting their driving.
Three-quarters of the respondents say as well as what are their parents who have had the most influence on the drivers they are today (43 % to their father, 31 % mother). What may seem to be a good thing. Almost nine young drivers out of ten (89 %) say they adjust their driving according to the passengers they carry. They are especially vigilant when their family members are in their vehicle (85 %) ; 98 % say they are more cautious in the presence of their parents.
Corrected by the parents
Moreover, the more a young driver on three has already been taken up by a passenger following a risk behaviour, and it is largely by their parents (58 %), continues to teach the survey.
In the end, 65 % of young drivers believe they are less good conductors than their parents. They give themselves an average score of 7.6/10, smaller than the one they attribute to the conduct of their parents (7,9/10).
Parents not always very best
But, in fact, the parents reveal themselves to be far from exemplary. According to their children, 92 % have already engaged in risky behaviour at the wheel in their presence. Dangerous behaviors that directly influence those of the youth, since they reproduce more when they have been faced. In fact, 95 % of young drivers acknowledge that they have had at least one risk behaviour at the wheel. These behaviors are more cited when parents take these same risks.
