Sliders : the cult series of the 90’s could soon have the right to a reboot
The 90’s saw the revival of the fantastic and science-fiction in tv series. And of course, we owe it to X-Files. But there was also a series that we are taking this to heart, and who has never known the fate it deserved : Sliders.
If you grew up in the 90’s and you had a M6, you have not been able to move to the side of the Sliders, the parallel worlds, and Jerry O’connell at the student who had invented a remote control that could open a vortex between dimensions. He had sucked with his best friend, his teacher and a fellow unfortunate.
Lost in the parallel worlds, the team was seeking actively to reach its Land of origin and this gave us the opportunity to visit a lot of alternate realities sometimes terribly premonitory and sometimes frankly wacky.
The team of origin
In short, a good little series we like but who has not had an easy life since the production and the channel of american tv were not quite on the same wavelength, to the point that Sliders has never really known the actual conclusion. But Mr Meeea you will speak better than us in his excellent column that he has devoted to this series.
All that to say that with the current trend of rebooting everything in sight, it was expected that one day this is the trick to Sliders and, obviously, this is a good start if we are to believe the actor Jerry O’connell, who has more or less announced to the micro Digital Spy :
“I bet that the series will come back ! Tracy Tormé, the creator of the series, recently called me to tell me that he was preparing the return of the Sliders. I hope that this will happen and I will do my very best to help. It is quite funny in the background. When one finishes a series, we closed as a chapter of his life. But this is never really finished in fact.”
Jerry O’connell, at the time
Of course, it should not be expected to resume his role. Even still…
“There is no reason that I am again the star. Even if I’m sure I could play the father of the hero, something of this kind. Or his grand-father.”
Of course, the project is still in an embryonic stage, and nothing is done, but the perspective is interesting. Between good hands, in good conditions and with the technologies of today, a return of the Sliders would be more than good news. Especially in this time where we have the impression of living in an alternative reality permanently.
Soon mr. Mallory ?
