Tonight, it is game. While France will face Belarus at a meeting of qualifying for the World Cup, you tortillerez on your couch, in front of your tv. Your heart will beat to the color of the team of France. A little too much, maybe… In fact, the emotion generated by this game could be harmful to your heart. Such is the conclusion drawn in a study published in the Canadian Journal of Cardiology.

According to these works, the fans undergo significant fluctuations in heart when they watch a match, whether it ends in victory or in defeat. The explosions of joy or cries of anger spoken during a match at high intensity, or high stakes, is not without effect.

Heart rate doubled

The researchers studied the heart rate of a population of hockey fans in good health. They found that when they watching a match on tv, their heart rate could increase by 75 %, and 110 % (more than double, and the equivalent of a cardiac stress without heavy exercise) when they watched this match at the stadium. On average, the heart rate was accelerated to 92 % among the whole audience.

Previous studies have highlighted an increase of cardiac events during sporting events. The explanation could simply lie in the emotion aroused in these fans exalted.

“Our study suggests that the response of emotional stress induced by the viewing of a hockey game could potentially stimulate cardiovascular disorders at the population level. These results have important implications in terms of public health “.

The risks of the game

Watching matches would thus not be risk-free… other studies have shown a potential risk factor for obesity related to physical inactivity – not, you are not really a sport watching sport – and the junk food that often accompanies the evenings match, to the menu almost invariable (pizza, beer).

In England, research has even shown an increase in domestic violence during the defeats of the british team at the World Cup. The stress and the alcohol are pointed out as factors that may increase the passage to the act, even if in the background, none of the two can explain it to you.

In short, friends and supporters, in the event of a important game, we are not sufficiently alert you. Breathe, meditate, buy a ball anti-stress, drink relaxing herbal tea, make a coloring for adult or rake your zen garden, that is important. Relax, everything will turn out for the better. And go the Blue.
