32 years ago, to the day, Daniel Balavoine lost his life in a helicopter accident. A drama that has upset the French, but also and especially to his closest friends : France Gall and Michel Berger.

France Gall and Michel Berger befriend Daniel Balavoine in the 1970s. At the time, the couple is looking for someone to interpret Johnny in the musical Starmania. What began as a professional relationship is changing very quickly into a beautiful friendship. “The collaboration that brings the humour, laughter, is installed immediately between them, between us, since I was always there”, said France Gall in Paris on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the disappearance of the singer. Together, they are invested in the humanitarian sector, especially in Senegal, a country close to France Gall and Michel Berger, where they create the association “Action school”.

Inseparable to the city as the stage, these three form a kind of family. We spent Christmas together, the summer holidays together in rented houses, we played tennis, we went to the cinema”, told the little fiancée of the French two years ago.

Naturally, when the drama occurs, the spouses break down. As their daughter, Pauline, who died a few years later, is battling cystic fibrosis. At its worst, it is thanks to the music that they think their wounds. Despite “the huge gap that will be that nothing will be as before”, the couple manages to find the strength to overcome this ordeal. In tribute to his lost friend, Michel Berger composed, of Course, a trip on the absence on which France Gall raises his voice. “I thought I would never be able to sing it. I cried every time. This is, I believe, the song the most sad I’ve ever sung in my life,” confided she still in Paris. A song that cements the friendship of this trio, now together for eternity.
