It is thought for years and the series Netflix The Haunting of Hill House finally comes to prove to the world : Mike Flanagan is one of the very big become of the new horror cinema. And we can’t wait to see the rest of his career.

We had already sensed at the time of theOculus, before you fall asleep not and Ouija 2 : The Origins do we confirm : Mike Flanagan does not have a common vision of horror cinema. At least not in phase with the present time. Refusing the jump-scares and the effects of shocks in a way that is purely free to startle the viewer, he builds his fantastic and her stories by focusing primarily on its moods, its characters, and a real image work, mainly devoted to the notion of retail and out-of-field.

A vision that is extremely fun as it allows the horror to reconnect with the roots of psychoanalysis and whose The Haunting of Hill House is probably the finest example to date. The series Netflix is available since a few weeks, is indeed one of the jewels of this year and has traumatized more than a spectator.

Of course, when you finish the 10 episodes, only one question arises : will there be a season 2 ? If the question might seem far-fetched as the story seems to come full circle we are not immune to a decision of Netflix wanting to capitalize on this success. And it is exactly that Mike Flanagan has spoken recently to the micro-from Entertainment Weekly :

“I don’t want too speculate on a possible season 2 before Netflix, Paramount and Amblin does let us know that they want. However, what I can say is that as far as I am involved, the history of the family Crain is complete. It is finished. There are many other directions that we could borrow, with the house or with something completely different. I also like the idea of an anthology. But for me, I have the feeling that Crain has had enough of things and we left them exactly where we wanted to remember it, we who have worked on the series.

We played with a end in a cliffhanger, as we played with other ideas, but for us, in the end, we really had the feeling that this story asked for a form of closure on our part and we were happy to close the book on this family. That said, I think more than anything that this series speaks of haunted houses and people haunted, and as has been said, there is no shortage of ideas. There are a lot of things that we could do, inside or outside the home.”

So yes, we love the Flanagan but we don’t want that it gives dirty ideas to Netflix and consort. Because, for us, the series is sufficient in itself in the state and we would very much like to, but so far, it remains a one-shot. History has shown that it does not end up like American Horror Story for example. But hey, who are we to decide ?
