William Friedkin is one of the greatest directors in the world and even if the end of his career is a little more discreet in its infancy, it has still released a few pearls. Including Killer Joe.
When Killer Joe goes out on the screens in 2012, Friedkin returns by far. Master of the thriller hollywood in the 70s and 80s, his character tempered steel and his vision of things radical had not allowed him to survive the 90’s. Especially that, having taken the big head, it was now quarrelling with almost everyone. It was a real pleasure to meet him at the opportunity of being Stalked, his proto Rambo, in 2003, before we quiet them all with Bug in 2007. But it is with his latest film, Killer Joe, he has us all put a huge slap.
We remind you that the movie is part of those who have allowed the resurrection of Matthew McConaughey, which was far from being won, masterful in his role of cop rogue who agrees to kill the mother of a bouseux before everything went to shit. A thriller super black, wild, cruel and bewitching, that were not thought to see one day.
And well would you believe that the cop killer will return soon, but on the small screen, since William Friedkin has just announced the micro Indiewire that he was in the process of adapting Killer Joe tv series :
“This is happening in the world of rich people. Where you kill his wife or his rivals. Joe is a killer that was hired to take down those who escape justice, and that is believed to be a suicide. It becomes a sort of angel the redeemer in the series because it does not kill anyone. He must first be convinced that his target deserves it.”
Impossible for the moment to know when the series will be broadcast, or even on what network. However, what is certain is that, as you might expect, Matthew McConaughey will not resume his role. But we can be trusted to Friedkin for us to find another actor just as crazy as him to become the true Killer Joe.
That is what it was Killer Joe when you think about it…
