Nearly two years after the end of its broadcast, the series the Leftovers still remains mysterious. Justin Theroux gives his theory.

The Leftovers is one of the best series of recent years if not the best according to the author of these lines. After a first season overwhelming, a second season most mystical, the series of Damon Lindelof and Tom Perrotta had ended in triumph with its third season.

Has the image of the series, his grand finale left room for doubt, in particular during its last sequence, conducive to multiple interpretations. Almost two years after its release, the leading player of the series and performer of Kevin Garvey, Justin Theroux, has revealed his theory to Couch Surfing.

Attention, for those who have not seen the series, first check you over now, we explain here why, and secondly, the rest of the article contains spoilers, major.

At the end of episode 8 of season 3, Nora Durst (Carrie Coon), and Kevin Garvey finally found themselves. In order to explain its withdrawal in Australia, Nora told Kevin that the scientific experiment had been a success. She was said to have been transported to an alternate reality where 98% of the population of the planet had disappeared and not 2%. Lied ?

Justin Theroux is therefore expressed about this on the sofa of Couch Surfing :

“My theory is that she told me lies [editor’s note : Kevin Garvey] and that she has never been in that other place. She uses it to try to make me leave or that I don’t with it.

A sequence moving

It is quite implied. Often, when people did monologues, or simply said things, our series showed flashbacks of the events. In this monologue, there is no flashback. So I think it is a defense mechanism. She said that in telling this story, he’s going to leave and tell him : “You’re completely smitten, you’re crazy.” But he ended by saying : “I don’t care, you are here, you are the love of my life and I will stay with you.” He wants to stay with her that she is crazy or not, he loves her that’s all. “

Hard to know if we’ll know by the end of the story one day, but to say true, the series is all the more beautiful by keeping a part of its secrets. The Leftovers is a series that speaks of faith, belief and trust, and not of certainties. Leave it up to the mystery and the interpretation of each seems to be the most beautiful ending possible for the series to HBO.
