The streaming platform OCS presents the first teaser for its event series : the Name of the rose.

In November 2017, it was learned that the cult novel by Umberto Eco, the Name of the rose, would be entitled to a new adaptation. After having been brought to the screen by Jean-Jacques Annaud in 1986 with Sean Connery and Christian Slater, among others, in the film of the same name, the book would be adapted into a mini-series thanks to the Italian tv channel Rai and OCS.

More than a year after, the mini-series (the first OCS Originals) is completed and the first images of this new adaptation have been unveiled in a teaser.

We found John Turturro in the skin of the franciscan monk William of Baskerville, in the full investigation after a series of murders gruesome. At his side, Rupert Everett will play the Inquisitor Bernardo Gui, and Michael Emerson, the abbot Abbon, and the young Damian Hardung, the sidekick of Baskerville : Adso of Melk.

The cast will also have in its ranks James Cosmo (Game of Thrones), Richard Sammel (OSS 117, Cairo nest of spies, Inglourious Basterds), or even the French Tchéky Karyo.

Performed by Giacomo Battiato, the mini-series will consist of 8 episodes of 52 minutes.

Here is the synopsis official :

“Italy, 1327. The Franciscan monk William of Baskerville and his young novice Adso of Melk arrive at a benedictine abbey isolated in the Alps. They will witness a series of mysterious killings. While the two heroes investigate and throw themselves to the pursuit of the murderer, they themselves are chased by the ruthless inquisitor Bernardo Gui. The mission of the latter is clear : hunt down all those who criticize the Pope. And Baskerville is on his list…”

The Name of the rose lands on the OCS from the 5th of march next, after two episodes per week.
