It is not that we want especially to pursue The Dark Tower, but he must imagine that we are the first disappointed by the movie released in the summer because, even if it smelled like the dirty trick from miles away, it was expected not bad for the good fans of the novels.

And, without wanting too spend too many words on the subject, to say that it has been a cold shower is a big understatement, even if this raises a fascinating question about how the studios are considering adaptations of literary works and the concept of the expanded universe. And, on this plan, The Dark Tower is a school of which we still have a lot of difficulty understanding the logic.

In effect, what interest is there to swing a universe that the general public does not know necessarily, to show us the outcome, in an hour and a half, reserving the heart of the story for a future tv series of which we do not even know if it will see the day ? There is clearly something to ask questions about the rate of “sugar” present in the coffees of the executives. That said, shortly before the film’s release, the series was to tell us about the origins of the Gunslinger, always played by Idris Elba but as The Dark Tower has taken a big clip in the jaws, we do not know too much.

The project would still be writing on the side of Sony Pictures Television, and the first (?) season is expected to be between 10 and 13 episodes, but it is what it is known for the moment as it has not yet found a distributor, which seems logical considering the career of a catastrophic film in cinemas. This is probably more information that the website Vulture went to question the author of the novels himself, good old Stephen King, so that he tells us where all this is. And he took the opportunity to defend the film, which he found rather good :

“The biggest challenge of a movie was to adapt a long series of novels of 3,000 pages. The other challenge was to deliver a film that is rated PG-13 from books that are very violent and deal with this violence very graphic. This is something that the film had to overcome and I must say that the screenwriter Akiva Goldsman did an amazing job in what was in my opinion a good movie.”

But the King we balance then some vital information regarding the future of the series, which could well illustrate the conflict brain barrier in which it is currently in the studio :

“The tv series that they are currently developing… We’ll see what will happen to this topic… This would be a reboot total of this universe… So we must just show patients.”

And it may be the best thing to do, ignore the movie to start again on new bases, as not to pull a ball in the foot right from the start. After, we will see actually if the studio has made the right choice and will be able to bounce back after this dismal failure. But that said reboot, said probably the absence of Idris Elba in the role of Roland, and that is not cool.
