See through the skin of the patient, a dream of a doctor become a reality : a surgeon has placed an implant shoulder with a helmet with augmented reality. A system that allowed him to see the position of the bodies and muscles, blood vessels and nerves through the skin. The surgeon was also in relationship with medical teams international (South Korea, United Kingdom and the United States). This is the first time in the world that a transaction is carried out through a system of virtual reality as a complete and holographic images of as good quality.

A technology that could limit the complications

The operation was performed by Dr Thomas Gregory, head of the department for orthopaedics and traumatology of the hospital Avicenne in Bobigny, Seine-Saint-Denis. It was equipped with a helmet of “mixed reality” called Hololens, which is manufactured by Microsoft. It allows you to see the 3D images of the anatomy of the patient, but also have access to other information such as his medical records. What the surgeon saw through his headphones was shot earlier, and then reprojected into the helmet in 3D version. These new techniques could improve the quality of surgical operations. They offer the operator unparalleled accuracy, impossible to have without these goggles, which limit the number of gestures and therefore of risk of complications or even infections.
